This afternoon, my partner, Sam Daltrey, and I traveled to the gorgeous Rainbow Valley Golf Course. Designed by Lexy Amore (who is an absolute gem and I’ve learned so much playing with her), Rainbow Valley’s 18 holes span two sims. From rezzing at the landing spot, the course is just beautiful. It’s wonderfully laid out with great signage, vibrant colors, a majestic mountain atmosphere, and such a good golfy vibe; it’s impossible not to just smell the grass of this course.
One of my favorite things about Rainbow are the little touches. Things like the arrangement of the flowers, the sprinklers, the look of the grass, and the scuff marks on higher traffic areas really give it a golf course feel that is positively irresistible. I love that they have free carts available too, though I think you’re missing out on some gorgeous scenery if you don’t walk the course.
Rainbow Valley will also host the SLympic Tournament in mid-September. I’m so excited to participate in it!
Hole 1: Par 4, 105m

An element you’ll come across a lot at Rainbow Valley is “island fairways”. I was confused by these at first, but I’ve come to realize how they really force a golfer to think about distances differently. What do I need to clear? How hard am I going to need to hit the brakes when my shot lands? Rainbow Valley has really helped me to start thinking about the next shot as opposed to just the one at my feet.
The first hole features one of these island fairways that ends approximately 60m from the tee. It’s lined by lovely conifer trees to the right and a river to the left. The second shot will need to be carried over a large rock (that would love nothing more than to bat your approach shot into the river) onto a large green.
Hole 2: Par 3, 47m

The second hole tees off downhill onto a large green surrounded front and rear by large and very hungry bunkers. One day I’ll get a handle on playing downhill, but it wasn’t today as we both buried our tee shots in the rear bunker.
Hole 3: Par 5, 137m

The third hole is split into two island fairways, the first of which ends approximately 65m from the tee. There’s a really beautiful large lake to the right; thankfully, a tee shot will have to go really far afield to wind up in the drink. From the first island, the hole doglegs left to a much smaller island fairway that terminates at a large bunker. The hungry bunker leads uphill to the green.
(Have any of you all ever hit the green from that first island?)
My second shot today dropped right near the end of that second fairway, but I wound up taking a four stroke penalty on my next shot. I’ve got to be more careful!

The green is much more narrow than the two we’ve seen so far, but is relatively flat and sinking even a longer putt is very possible.
I’m really excited to continue with the next three holes at Rainbow Valley! If you’ve never played a round there, you are sincerely missing out. Lexy has put together a gorgeous course that is as satisfying to look at as it is to play.
Don’t forget we have a contest going on until September 15! Check out the first post on the blog and leave a comment to win either a TrueGolf VGS Pro Pack or a TrueGolf VGS Caddy HUD. So far I’ve had a grand total of zero entries, so your chances are good!
Until next time, fairways and greens!
