Talking great hairs for your next tee time with Sam Daltrey
I’ve mentioned this before, but one of the biggest things I wanted to do when I started writing Second Links was to marry two of my favorite things in Second Life: golf and fashion. I love creating outfits and shopping for new clothes and going out looking fabulous and talking clothes with anyone who will listen. I spend an inordinate amount of time visiting Seraphim (better known to Sammie and me as Sephiroth) or Essential Inventory to review shopping events, sales, and other places I might go to inflate my virtual inventory…
…you know, this is starting to sound like I have some kind of problem. Let’s move on.
I have a wonderful partner who I’ve been with for years in Second Life, and not only am I kind of crazy about her, she’s a wonderful best friend, editor, golfing partner, and fellow shopping/fashion addict. We both revel in creating looks, costumes, outfits, and going out looking fantastic. She is, positively, unequivocally, and 5ever, my favorite.
It also makes Sam ideal for a conversation about golfy women’s hair in Second Life to review and discuss our favorites. I hope that maybe we point you in the direction of some cute hairs you might want to try on, or, at the very least, we’re entertaining while trying to do so.
Note: While I have a “Ken doll” alt that I use for dress-up and photos, he only has like one hair, and he doesn’t get to play golf (I’m not buying a Tour Pro set for Kender, he can get his own!). If you’re a chap who has a few different hairs and/or hats you wear when playing golf, I’d love to hear from you! I want to do more for men’s golfy fashion. Please IM me (keyliikkin resident) and we’ll talk.
What follows is essentially the conversation Sam and I had when trying on the hairs we picked out and talking about them a bit. The two of us got together at Rainbow Links Hawaii, went through some of our favorite golfy hairs and talked about them a bit. We also said hi to Lexy, who told us something neither of us knew about one of our favorite hairs. (We’ll get to it later.)

Keyli Daltrey: So I think we’ve taken…about 48 hours or so to compose lists of our favorites?
Sam Daltrey: That sounds about right! I think we chose some good ones, too!
KD: I like that a lot of them kind of go beyond just being cute, but have some meaning to us. I feel like that takes anything, a hair, a top, shoes, whatever, and moves them beyond ‘something you wear’ to ‘something that’s part of you’. Like those Tink jeans from Blueberry or the Nedis pumps from KC – there’s something kind of special about some pieces of your wardrobe, and that goes for hair, too.
SD: I totally agree. When things have a story, or work their way into your heart, wearing them becomes incredibly special.
KD: The visor you’re wearing is very much one of those things. Tell me about that and the hair you’re wearing with it?
SD: Well, the visor is one that I designed for the Fawkes Landing sim, which no longer exists. I loved making it, and now it serves as a reminder of a very special place. For those who don’t know, it was the home of the Barnyard Golf Club, which was where I learned to play. So lots of memories tied up in this visor.
The hair is from one of my very favorite shops: Stealthic! It’s called Ease, and it’s very ease-y to fit hats, or, in this case, visors with it, which was why I like it for golfing. Plus, it’s just a nice, simple, kind of perfect ponytail, which is surprisingly hard to find in SL.
KD: It’s one of my favorite visors for the same reason. Barnyard is where golf went from ‘there’s golf in SL?’ to ‘I should play golf every day!’. I’m actually going to wear that visor with one of my other choices later. Ease is a lovely hair. Stealthic is amazing; I don’t think I’ve ever tried a hair from that store and hated it.
SD: They really are fantastic, aren’t they? I don’t love every style they produce, but each one looks great.
I recognize the one you’re wearing, but I’d love to hear your thoughts about it!
KD: I thought you might – this one is Damiana from DOUX, and it’s one of my favorite dedicated baseball cap hairs in Second Life. DOUX (all caps, because I guess they like to yell their name?) really does make pretty hairs and they’re relatively reasonable. One thing I really like about this one is how many color options it has for the hat. While it didn’t have just the right red for this bikini, it has 24 color options, and you can color the hat and bill separately.
SD: I love an accessory with lots of color options. I’ve worn that hat and hair so many times, and I love it. DOUX (they really do like yelling!) makes wonderful colors and textures for their hairs, including very natural reds, which can be hard for some designers, so I have a soft spot for them, too. Damiana has a great casual and sporty look, so it’s really perfect for the links!

KD: Okay, hair the second in our review! What are you wearing?
SD: For my second hair, I chose Rose Marie from Mina. I love the old-fashioned pageboy cap, and I think they captured that look really beautifully with this one. It reminds me of some of the outlandish golf attire I’ve seen, but it does it in a very understated way. I also think the long hair behind the shoulders is a fun change of pace from some of the tied up or tied back styles I often wear when I play.
KD: I totally agree! And I love something a little different. A lot of what we’ll have today is baseball caps and visors, which are probably most common on Second Life links, so it’s great to see something a little less conventional that still looks right at home on the golf course.
Mina makes a shorter hair with the same OG flat cap called Casey that is SUPER cute if you have short hair. I’m pretty sure we’re going to come back to Mina before our day is done. 😉
SD: I have Casey, too! It’s another fantastic one!
KD: Hee – I have it because you have it! It looked amazing on you and I needed it.
SD: *giggles* I don’t know what percentage of my inventory is made up of clothes and hairs that I saw you in and needed, but I’d guess it’s a pretty high number. 🙂
KD: One day we’ll need to analyze our inventories to calculate how much overlap there is; I’m guessing it’s a huge number.
SD: Comparing inventories would be a pretty interesting exercise 🙂 I bet there’s a lot of overlap!
KD: My second hair is from Truth, and I imagine just about everyone knows Truth. They have a gigantic selection and their hairs are pretty reasonable. They also have A LOT of great group gifts. The group join fee easily pays for itself.
SD: I have SO many hairs from Truth! I actually joined the group on a recommendation from a friend when I first joined SL and I got a lot of my early hairs from them. The gifts are exceptional!
KD: This one is called Aloha. Once again, tons of options for customizing the hat and the bill as well as some kind of beachy patches for the front (I hide the patches when golfing, but when out and about I absolutely show them off). I think the braided pigtails are super cute and Truth does a great job with this hair making sure there are plenty of sizes included to avoid the braids clipping through my chest.
SD: Aloha is perfect for Rainbow Hawaii! Such a good choice! And cute as can be, too.
KD: Your friend really made a good recommendation – if you aren’t a member of the Truth group, it’s well worth the L$300 group join free. They have at least a dozen group gifts available now (maybe even more?) and add four or five new ones every year.
(EDIT: As I write this on February 28, 2025, Truth’s group join fee is L$0! If you aren’t a member, you’ve got just no excuse not to become one and go grab all those free group gifts!)
SD: Now that all the GGs are available to all members, it’s a big win!
KD: Ready for the third?
SD: Ready!

KD: Oh I’m so glad you picked that one!!!
SD: Yay! So, yeah, my third hair is ALSO from Truth! It’s one of their group gifts, in fact: Jacica. I think the little low buns are adorable, and it features the same sort of robust options on the cap as you pointed out on Aloha. It can be worn with or without the cap, so it has tons of flexibility.
KD: You know, it’s worth noting that the GGs from Truth are all fatpatcks. So even if you just found one that you liked and wore, the group join fee is worth the price of admission.
SD: Oh yeah, no matter what your hair color, or if you like changing it up, that’s a HUGE feature.
KD: I love that Jacica has a great sporty vibe and is totally at home on the links, but it’s still super playful and fun. It’s really a great balance.
My third is another Stealthic hair with a visor. I’m wearing Makeout from Stealthic, which is also my favorite ‘space buns’ hair in Second Life. Honestly, Makeout is super fun and sporty on it’s own, but it works really well with a visor, too. This is the Fawkes Landing visor that you made, and even if Fawkes Landing and Barnyard don’t exist anymore, it really makes me smile to think about our experiences there.
SD: I’m also a big fan of space buns, and that’s a particularly cute one! I love how well it works with the visor, too, that makes it so good for a round of golf. Like I said earlier, Stealthic is one of my favorites, and when they do a take on one of my favorite hairstyles, it’s always a winner!

KD: Okay! After a quick visit from the stylist we’re on hair the fourth! What are you wearing?
SD: This one is another from Truth! It’s called Sunny, and is another hair that looks great with or without the hat. I like the bucket hat’s casual fun flair, it lightens up the outfit, while still being appropriate for the golf course. Plus, I think it’s playful and cute!
KD: The bucket hat is adorbs. I love that it’s a multi-tasker, too! It looks really cute on the beach, and is right at home on the course. Sunny isn’t a group gift, but Truth’s prices are pretty reasonable and I love that you can wear it with or without the hat.
SD: Again, flexibility is such a wonderful feature! I think I got this one on a weekend sale, so the price was oh so right! And I have worn it on the beach with a cute little bikini, it’s very much spot on in that environment, too, you’re right!
KD: My fourth choice is kind of a fun multi-tasker also, but in a different way. This is Salty from Wasabi. I actually originally bought it to wear sailing; I loved the idea of sailing with a backwards baseball cap, a bikini top, and denim shorts. It turns out the hat kinda works on the golf course as well! One of the most unique things about the cap is it can be worn with the bill forward as well. I’ve never seen that feature on another dedicated baseball cap hair.
SD: Talk about playful! Backwards and at a jaunty little angle is so cute and so fun, and really different than what you usually see in SL. I just love that one.
KD: So we’ve each got one more, and then a very special honorable mention…where’s that stylist?!

*shoos away the stylist* Okay! Last on our lists – yours is one of my favorites that you wear. ♥
SD: I’m so glad! I have such a soft spot for this one. My fifth is Pomme, another baseball cap from Wasabi! It’s sporty and practical, but still super cute. I love the tiny pigtails, which make it a fun shorter hair. It’s a great golfing cap, while not taking itself too seriously.
KD: The tiny pigtails are positively squee-worthy, they are just impossibly adorable. I also really love that the name translates to ‘apple’. Something about that just fills me with joy.
SD: Hehehe! I like that, too!
KD: My last one is a visor that most of y’all probably recognize since it comes with every Pro Golf VGS and Tour Pro VGS from TrueGolf. This particular visor is actually a special one for me because I was wearing it when I hit my first hole-in-one at Ravenwood Shire.
SD: Oh, that’s a great memory to associate with that visor! I love that!
KD: I’m wearing it with another hair from Stealthic. This one’s called Techno. I love how loosely my hair is tied up with loose strands hanging onto my shoulders. It’s a really lovely hair and looks great with or without a visor.
SD: This is one of the ways Stealthic really shines. They do that so well: making hair that has a slightly messy look without taking away from the well-styled look of the hair. Those wispy little hairs are evocative and naturalistic and fun!

KD: We had one more we wanted to show off, and not just because it’s a cute hair (which it is), but because it means a lot to us both.
SD: I’m glad we’re doing this. 🙂
KD: Me too.
So, the hair we’re wearing is Hazel from Mina. It’s a dedicated baseball cap hair with a pony tail, not unlike Damiana from earlier.
SD: This hair has a special place in both our hearts because it’s kind of how we met!
We were both at the Mina birthday sale, and we both were trying this hat on and noticed each other.
KD: The fact that of the tens of thousands of people that were on at that time we were at the same sale trying on the same hat and somehow our cameras landed on each other is one of my very favorite miracles.
SD: It’s my favorite, too. 🙂 Such a momentous coincidence, and has led to so much happiness! And the hat is so great, I think we both wear it well, on top of it being such a fun story for us.
AND! We just learned that you can add your own textures to it (thanks, Lexy!) so we can make it our own even more!
KS: It really has led to such a happy life together and just countless great experiences. So weird that it all started from a cute hair with a baseball cap.
Oooooh! Yes! I can’t wait to try that!
SD: I know! It’s a classic meet cute, and how cool that we got to have that happen to us. 🙂
KD: So…the takeaway from that is going shopping for hair is better than trying to meet potential romantic partners at clubs.
SD: Hair shops are absolutely less meat-markety than SL dance clubs! And that worked out well for us…your mileage may vary. 😉
I had the very best time crafting and writing this post, and I got to spend most of the time with Sam, which made it even better. We’re going shopping for piercings as soon as I’m done!
Thanks for taking this ride with us both, and I hope maybe you found a hair or two you want to try on. If so, let me know in comments! Or, if you have a favorite hair you wear when you’re out playing golf, which one is it? I can’t wait to hear from you guys!
Until next time, fairways and greens!
