Two Roads to Golfy Fashion (GIVEAWAY!)

Sweet and Spicy looks for the links!

A few weeks ago, my partner, Sam Daltrey, and I got together to talk about some of our favorite hairs for the links. I think it’s a post a lot of female avatars might find interesting – or at least kind of amusing. I hope you’ll check it out.

I bring it up because we got one comment on that post that really stuck in my mind.

well in the end, I hope you may write an article about golf clothes…because what you wear in the interview may be a suitable outfit for the beach, but, to my personal view, not for a golf course. It’s very difficult to find good clothes that fits in quality and does not look as if I want to have some sexual intercourse right at the green.

Fair play, Sammie and I were having a little fun at Rainbow Links Hawaii and did the post in golf skirts and bikini tops, which might not be for everyone. It got me thinking about doing a post of what would be considered appropriate, but attractive fashion for the golf course.

Then the part of me that really likes wearing miniskirts with bikini tops piped up and decided maybe there was room in a post for both schools of golfy couture. Sammie and I dug through our closets; my mission was to find five outfits that would be cute and proper for a golf/country club environment, Sammie’s was to find five sexier outfits that might not be as appropriate, but would sure turn heads while not being wholly out of line on the first tee.

It’s worth saying that some of the images that follow dance on the edge of NSFW. There’s no overt nudity, but gosh, we really got in the neighborhood. It’s also worth saying that we did this post FOR FUN. While there are some cute outfits here, there are ones you probably shouldn’t wear out golfing.

With no further ado, I give you the spicy and the sweet.

Bodies Used

Sammie’s wearing one of my very favorite outfits for golf, or any athletic endeavour, from Belzebubble. While the skirt’s on the short side, it’s still perfectly serviceable for golf or tennis. (Just…don’t forget your knickers unless you want to flash the whole country club – that’s going to be a bit of a recurring theme.)

I’m wearing a sport dress from LeCastle. Dresses that would be suitable for outdoor sports like golf or tennis are so rare in Second Life, and I feel like this one is really cute without being overly stodgy. It’s also really reasonably priced.

Sammie’s back at Belzebubble again for that top (that store really is absolutely aces). The skirt is from Vanilla Bae, which means you probably want to wear the PG version or some cheeky duffer is going to tug your skirt down right on the fairway. (Also, knickers or flash.)

I’m wearing a slightly more reserved top from Belzebubble – it’s one of my favorite hoodies in SL. The joggers are from Addams and feel like they’d be comfy just about anywhere, including a day at the course.

My sweetie is back into her mini-miniskirt section of the virtual closet for a skirt from 1313 (it is, as the French might say, culotte ou exposer – I’m hoping Google translate got that somewhere close to right). And her polo shirt (it’s got a collar and buttons and that makes it a Polo shirt…I’m sure that’s a rule.) is from EVIE.

I’m wearing a long-sleeved top from Neve (another store that is just aces and really a fantastic spot for golfy fashion) and a skirt from Bumblebee. I love the tartan on it!!!

We should probably stop and take a moment to talk about crop tops. The fact of the matter is, most of my tops, and a significant percentage of tops for women in SL, are crop tops. There are absolutely longer tops out there, but I’m super finicky about my tops clipping with my bottoms, so crop tops fill my wardrobe.

For my ‘sweet’ outfits in this post, I tried to stick with the longest tops I had, but…well…you go to war with the army you have. (Mostly because you don’t want to spend hundreds of lindens on pixel clothes you won’t wear that often.)

That and I like showing off my navel piercings.

While Sammie’s Belzebubble dress is like the dictionary definition of form-fitting and ends well north of the knee, it’s still my favorite athletic dress in SL. That said, it’s a little…cheeky in the back, and it’s from the knickers-or-flash school of SL fashion.

I’m wearing a turtleneck blouse from HER that I think is really pretty, and another skirt from Bumblebee. Bumblebee’s a great shop for golfy fashion as well, and they participate almost weekly in the major weekend sales – great for saving a little money that you might otherwise spend on…other clothes.

And, finally, Sammie has one of my very favorite sweaters in SL on, which can be found at Lamb. Her skirt (another in the knickers-or-flash line) is from Limited Addiction and is, I believe, from her mini-mini-miniskirt folder.

I’m wearing a vest from Bumblebee and my very favorite skirt for golf, which can be found at erratic.

Again, while I do think there’s an opportunity to maybe find some cute pieces to try on, we did this post to have a little fun. To be fair, both of us dress on the spicy side of golfy fashion when we’re out on the links, and I love that! The two things that I think are most important about fashion is that you both like how you look and feel good about yourself when wearing whatever you choose to wear. If wearing a bikini top with a golfy skirt is your jam, you should! By the same token, if you prefer to wear a more conservative polo and a cute, modest skirt, then you should! Have fun with your look. You might not ever be a perfect golfer, but you can create a look that you love and makes you feel good while you’re out working on reducing that handicap.

(Speaking of which, have you established your handicap? You’ve got like less than two weeks left until the Masters!!!)

GIVEAWAY!!! In the interest of helping out some golfer with their closet, I’m going to give away a L$500 gift card to your choice of clothing stores. Leave a comment here with your favorite place for finding golfy clothes and, at 12pm SLT on April 6, I’ll draw another winner!

Dang… that interviewee said that to your face? That could have been put more delicately. Meow. Anyways, like you posted, it’s hard to find full length tops to cover the belly and not clip into your bottoms. That’s probably why there’s way more crop tops available. My go to store for sensible modern wear that’s sfw is Neve. They do the slacks and skirts. My next pick would be Belle Epoque but I can’t remember seeing anything particularly golfy there.

Oddly enough, that’s an issue that rules throughout SL.

Designers have ‘sexy’ down to a science.

Conservative but hot? Not so much, and more’s the pity.

Samantha and I had to invest in a couple of Meli Imako’s mesh clothing kits to come up with anything remotely appropriate for golf course staff, for example, which IS a good analog for what people wear for a typical day at the golf course. Here’s an example of an outfit I put together that’s part of the wardrobe for a production we’re working on, titled “Swinging For Par”. https://www.flickr.com/photos/wickedgwenivere/52098800766/in/dateposted/

Sports fashion really does seem to be a little bit of an under-served area of fashion on SL.

“A Whisper of Silk” is one entry in the golf fashion area, mostly because they have run a golf course on SL for years.
