The Second Links Traveler

…golfing around the world of Second Life

My sad picture…and yes, I made over my avatar. We’ll talk about it another time.

Before I start, I should confess that I’m probably writing this more for me than for anyone else. And if you’re reading it and want to sit down or play a round of golf and talk about Lexy or trade stories together or whatever, please get in touch. I’d really like that and I don’t quite know who to talk to about this right now.

Lexy Amore passed away on September 24.

I don’t think I can express properly how much it hurts to type those words, or to imagine a world in which Lexy won’t be right at Rainbow Valley or Rainbow Hawaii. There were just countless times I messaged her in world to ask a question about a shot or a putt or a strategy or cute golf clothes and she was only too happy to talk to me; it’s positively soul-crushing to know those conversations will never happen again.

Going on and on and on about how much this hurts, and how I can’t stop crying, and how it’s going to be hard to play golf without feeling my heart hurt is not a great way to proceed here. I don’t know that it’s going to help anyone. So I’m going to turn to someone who helped me through a lot of really difficult times when I was younger (and not so young): Winnie the Pooh

And Pooh’s right. How lucky we all are. How lucky we all are to have known her, to have lived and played in this community with her. How lucky we all are to have a person like Lexy, even if saying goodbye is proving awfully hard.

Farewell, Sensei. Thank you for everything you shared with me. Your wit, your knowledge, your kindness, your patience, and your endless alacrity. The world, and not just the golf course, could do with a lot more Lexy, and while all of Second Life (and First) are poorer for your loss, we are all truly blessed for having shared an existence with you.

(If you’re interested, I did an interview with Lexy in November 2024. It was a great conversation and just a wonderful experience for me. I also interviewed Lexy with Chelsea Malibu before the opening of Rainbow Hawaii back in December 2024. If you haven’t read them (or even if you have), I hope you’ll give them a look.)

Please keep an eye on the golf groups in Second Life or here. The memorial for Lexy will be scheduled soon. If you’re able, I hope to see you there.
