It was a Saturday morning like most others when Chelsea Malibu mentioned a Second Life golf blog somewhere within earshot. I’d just attended a clinic at Rainbow Valley and learned about using backspin with the TrueGolf HUD, but, more importantly, I decided I needed to take a swing at writing a golf blog. (See what I did there?)
I wrote an SL lifestyle/fashion blog for about a year back in 2015 called Second Keyli. It was mostly an excuse for me to buy even more cute clothes, and then take pictures wearing them. I actually had a really good time with it, and I’ve missed having something worth blogging about in SL for a long time.
Golf is not something I expected to latch onto. I’m not a golfer IRL (much to my father’s chagrin), and what little real-world knowledge I have about the sport is from a one-credit golf class I took at university in…some time ago. Beyond that, my RL experience with golf is the kind where some kid’s birthday party wants to play through.
When Robin (Hi Robinz!) built the front nine at Barnyard Campgrounds for the Fawkes Landing spring camping trip, I looked at the price tag for TrueGolf and decided that wasn’t for me. Robin and Linda convinced Sam and I to rent a set of clubs and give it a try. Sam and I owned a set by the end of the week. Golf has no right to be as fun as it is in Second Life, but TrueGolf pulled it off. Golf is right up there with shopping, sex, and sailing as my very favorite things about our weird virtual existence. If only it began with s.
My goal is to post twice a week. With regards to content, I have some ideas. I’d like to meet and interview some of the personalities involved with golf in Second Life. I’d also like to try and plumb the depths of ‘golf fashion’, such as it is, in SL. I want to visit and play and verbally gush about all of the beautiful (and occasionally torturous) courses we have in our virtual world. I’m really looking forward to all of it.
Last thing and then I promise I’m done! Yes, this WordPress theme is super bland. I’m working on it! Promise! 😉 It’s been a while since I created and customized a blog in WP and what little skill I had with WordPress is…gone.
Okay. That wasn’t quite the last thing, but this thing is much more interesting. I’m going to give away a TrueGolf or TrueGolf Caddy HUD to someone who leaves a comment on this post.
