Everybody’s gone Golfboardin’! – GIVEAWAY!!!

Maybe the most fun way to get from tee to green…or bunker…

Late last week I was on the turn at Rainbow Valley North and came across the strangest new vehicle. It was part scooter, part golf cart. It was cute as heck and looked insanely fun. Frustratingly, I couldn’t jump on and take it for a test drive, so I did the next best thing and bothered Chelsea Malibu about it.

The item is the newest Steelhead Outfitters release, the Golfboard. I wondered if this was just one of Chelsea’s original creations or if there was some real world inspiration for this. And it turns out there is! The Golfboard is real, and gosh it looks fun. I practically threw lindens at the vendor and drove away on my on Golfboard the very next day.

Golfboardin’ USA at Rainbow Links Hawaii

The golfboard is a unique option for traversing the course. While it removes the option to just zip right to your ball, it’s so darn fun to zoom around on it that I found I didn’t miss it. The board is very easy to pilot, and I ran into no issues taking it around the front nine at Rainbow Links Hawaii.

It’s a pretty sharp looking golf whip too, with PBR texturing that is fully customizable. That said, in the interest of keeping the script weight of the board down, it doesn’t have any on-board options to customize textures. It’ll require a little Second Life graphic know-how to handle that. The amount of knowledge I have on the subject wouldn’t fill a shot glass, and I was able to customize my bag to match my normal custom Steelhead caddy bag.

EDIT 1/21/2025 – I’ve done almost zero research into how to customize my Golfboard and I’ve successfully changed the color (it’s been black, navy blue, and now pink). If you’ve got some PBR textures (which are really inexpensive on the Second Life Marketplace), you can customize your golfboard. And if you’re having trouble, give me a shout! I’ll try and help.

One of the very best things about the golfboard is you don’t really need to buy your own to enjoy tooling around the course in one. Rainbow Valley North and Rainbow Links Hawaii both have Golfboard rezzers so a golfer can borrow one for a test drive. If you aren’t sure you want one of your own, that would be my first destination.

At L$750, the golfboard might not be cheap, but it’s less expensive than a cart. In my own opinion, it’s a lot more exciting to drive, too. The golfboard is a fun alternative to walking or cart’ing around a course, and you really ought to take one for a test spin.

I’m about to go work on customizing mine with some PBR textures I found on the marketplace. I’ll post pictures when I’m done!

ANOTHER GIVEAWAY!!! I’m giving away a Steelhead Golfboard! All you need to do is leave a comment with your SL username! On January 29th at 12pm SLT, I’ll choose one comment at random and that individual will take home a Steelhead golfboard of their own!
